Social Intranet – Unleash the power of Enterprise

comments 1 comments  |  1590 reads

Imagine a large enterprise with tens of thousands of employees across several time zones on multiple continents, all collaborating with each other, aware of others’ expertise and interests, working seamlessly as if all of them were in the same room.

You may say that this is a pipe dream and cannot be reality any time soon unless we have futuristic gadgets similar to what were featured in popular TV series Star Trek.

Well, I say think again. We have Social Media tools and technology that can be used over enterprise intranet (as opposed to internet) to make this a reality. To know more, take a look at this excellent preso by Oscar Berg on the subject. My favorite is slide no. 91 (Know thyself).

Enjoy and please do share your comments and thoughts:

Social Intranet is here and now

Harish
From my experiences here in Australia, one of the reasons that Executives (in particular) seem to think this is a pipedream is that they haven't understood that "social" actually happens inside their business as well as outside their business.

Another problem I see is the fixation with Twitter and Facebook means many companies are failing to understand that this type of social connection technology can be used in ways that remove the boundaries of internal vs external engagement.

There are plenty of products available now that can be quickly deployed to provide this type of functionality ranging from Jive to Acquia. But as Oscar's slide deck identifies, technology is only one piece of the puzzle...
