Quality vs Quantity – The Great Business Networking Debate
I was working with Australia’s leading digital marketing expert Tim Martin from 2 Sticks Digital last week, delivering a workshop on digital marketing and social media to a group of Credit Union executives. During a session I was delivering on LinkedIn we had a wide ranging discussion on quality vs quantity in relation to connections/friends etc.
I’ve always been in the quality camp – so much so that I tend to avoid connecting to LION’s or as I call them “connection whore’s”.
Tim ran the following YouTube video of Seth Godin talking about this very issue – clearly quality is the right approach to take when expanding your LinkedIn business network.
What are your thoughts? Do you think there’s value in the objective of building tens of thousands of connections on LinkedIn? How would you explain the value of this type of network?
As an aside, we still have places available at both our Sydney and Brisbane LinkedIn workshops. Sydney workshop details are here. Or if you’re in Brisbane the LinkedIn workshop for Executives details are here.

Less is More
Oddly enough, 'less is more' seems to apply to most business activity within an online context.

It is not who you know, but who you know will help!
The key test is a a good one.
How many people would go out of their way to help you.
On the other side,
Who would you go out of your way to help?
You can't play chicken with this, waiting for the other to help you before you help them.
Get out there and be helpful, it works its way back around to you eventually.
